In this course, students will learn AI fundamentals; including how machines learn, reason and adapt. We also explore the presence of AI in everyday life. The course consists of six session that take the student through structured coursework which thoroughly explain AI concepts and practical use. Students will be encouraged to imagine the future of Artificial Intelligence based on how far the technology has already progressed. A full session is spent discussing the appropriate use of ChatGPT to avoid student code of conduct violations that can result from its misuse. The class is a combination of lecture (slide presentations) and ice breaker/interactive activities.
The curriculum is engaging, entertaining and practical, and does not center coding with the purpose of creating a welcoming environment for all attendees. At the end of the course, students are encouraged to submit a final project to demonstrate their understanding of the material, practice academic writing and imagine the future of technology based on its progress thus far. This high school level material can be used as preparation for college level coursework.
